“I was immediately drawn to the Garden’s preservation and conservation work. It’s hard work to run a Garden and most don’t focus on conservation to the degree that Desert Botanical Garden does,” shares Maja. “But it’s the conservation efforts that will be impactful long term.” Through an introduction by Barb Hoffnagle, then an executive at SRP and a Garden trustee, Maja took on leadership roles at the Garden. “We strongly believe if we support an organization enough to dedicate valuable time through leadership commitments, then we should definitely incorporate that organization into our long-term giving plans,” says Maja.
“There’s a sense of wonder of the natural environment here, and we wanted to continue the work of the Garden’s founders through our legacy gift,” says Charles. “Our son Brady is aware that nonprofits are included in our estate plan, and he is fully supportive and is starting to think about how he too can support nonprofits.”
